The Fadderfestival on the University of Stavanger (UiS) is for all students on UiS (inclusive Erasmus students)! All Fadderfestival participants must buy a ticket (Faddere and new UiS students). The ticket also gives you a Faddergroup - with both old and new students. You and your faddergroup will be together every day during the "fadderweek".
First and foremost, it’s good to have the basics in place before you properly enter the Stavanger-student life. UiS has made a step-by-step checklist for you as a new student, once you have completed it you are good to study!
The Student Association in Stavanger (SiS) is behind the user-friendly "My SiS" app which in a clear way shows all the offers you as a UiS student have. Through the app, you can also buy a ticket to the Fadderfestival at UiS, this year's program, frequently asked questions and much more is also posted here!
At SiS bok you can buy everything you need from textbooks and compendium booklets + helpful stationery. SiS book is located at Kitty Kiellands Hus, Campus Ullandhaug and has all the books in your curriculum.
On Campus Ullandhaug is SiS Sportssenter which offers fitness center, climbing and group lessons from 249 NOK months for students. The same building houses UiSi - the University of Stavanger's Idrettlsag, and is responsible for providing UiS students with a wide range of sports. UiSi offers, among other things, football, volleyball, lacrosse, salsa, outdoor life, golf, E-sports, and much more for NOK 150 per semester (NOTE! It is emphasized that membership at SiS Sports Center may apply).
“Good, healthy and nutritious food. Made from scratch - without cheap tricks and cheating. This is our recipe for fuel for active students ”- Studentsamskipnaden i Stavanger (SiS).
SiS kafé operates 6 Cafés:
SiS health is a free health service for you who have paid a semester fee and who are a student at the University of Stavanger. This includes, among other things, free of charge:
SiS Bolig has everything from dormitories to studio apartments and family homes. Prices from 3 200 NOK pr. md to 9 050 NOK pr. md.
Follow the Facebook group Universitetet i Stavanger - UiS to stay up to date on the student community in Stavanger. If you are an international student or just want to get to know international students, you should also follow International Students' Union - Stavanger, and the University of Stavanger.
Getting involved in the student community is the second best way to get to know people after Fadderuka :) Almost all fields of study have a line association that conducts relevant activity related to the study topics and in addition there are many independent student organizations. If you can not find an organization that is right for you, you can create your own!
The student organization StOr fights for the students' rights, and questions related to getting involved can be directed to them! If you want to try out the role of student politician, you can join International Students' Union of Stavanger (ISU) and fight for your main issues in the Student Parliament.
Also, you can sign up as a volunteer for the student bar Tappetårnet on campus Ullandhauf or Folken which is in the city center. Perhaps best of all is to sign up for the Fadder-board and get the opportunity to create the sponsor week of all time. We recommend you to join next year's Fadderweek in 2022! Either in the form of participation in the Board, as a Fadder Leader or a Fadder <33
If you have not been contacted by your Fadders by 4 August, contact Fadderresonsible Malin and Andreas Fadderansvarlig@gmail.com.
If you have not been contacted by your Fadderleader(s) by July 29, contact Fadderresponsible Malin and Andreas at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you do not go to UiS or are a UiS student who does not want to be a Fadder for new students, you can volunteer 2 days and get 3 days free festival days. Apply here.
This year's Fadderfestival takes place both on campus and in Stavanger city, as well as some activities around in the Stavanger Area. Like last year, it is also planned this year for more events with fewer participants to limit the number of people gathered in one place. We will provide information on how to get to the various events.
Under the festival, a program that suits all will be arranged in the period 16-20 August 2021. Program is coming, stay tuned;) and while you wait, download the "My SiS" app!
There´s an unlimited amount of tickets to the Fadderfestival. Everyone who wants to can join!
No, the Fadderfestival at UiS is not free for new students, exchange students and Fadders. The Fadderfestival ticket costs 400 NOK and applies to all activities under the auspices of Fadder UiS 2021. The ticket is still heavily subsidized by our partners, and keep in mind that you get a 5 day festival for a fairly cheap money! The ticket comes in the form of a t-shirt, which you will be handed out by your Fadderleader on the first day of the Fadderfestival, 16 July 2021.
Ticket sales will be open during the Fadderfestival 16-20 August. We still encourage all Fadders to buy a ticket at least three weeks before the Fadderfestival, and Fadderkids (new students, exchange students, international students) to buy as soon as they have decided on and entered the study at UiS.
The program during the Fadderfestival will take place in two different Fadderfestival areas. One is located on Campus Ullandhaug, the other in Stavanger City Center outside Geoparken. It will also be possible to sign up for individual activities outside the areas.
To control the coronavirus, There will be faddergroups in the size of what is allowed as the number of guests in private homes. As of now this means 10-20 people . As a rule of thumb, the fadder goup must be students who take the same course of study.
This year, the Fadderfestival has two Fadder areas, one in the city center (Geoparken) and one on Campus Ullandhaug. Below is an overview of different scenarios and what it means for the Fadderfestival in Stavanger. Several activities are arranged around Stavanger city and outside the city. This year there will be family days at Jernaldergården, more pubrun, Studentfood for 100 NOK, mini golf, Bowling at Lucky Bowl, and an escape room at Jernaldergården.
The Knutepunktet is the area in the middle of the campus between the main building Arne Rettedal and the Students' House (SH).
Tappetårnet is the student bar at UiS Campus Ullandhaug and is located on the ground floor of the students' house (SH), directly above Arne Rettedal's house. Tappetårnet is open throughout the Fadderfestival, and every Thursday throughout the year. The bar is run voluntarily, so here you just have to show up and support the local student community.
Folken is a concert venue in Stavanger Center. Concerts and music quizzes will be arranged here. Folken was opened as a student house in 1988 and is today run by the Student Society Society Foundation. This is a great way to meet others and gain experience as well as getting to know the Stavanger community!
Buses 6, 7 and X60 go to the UiS campus from Stavanger city center. For additional information, we recommend downloading the apps "Kolumbus reise", "Kolumbus billett" and "Kolombus Sanntid"
It depends on which faculty your study program belongs to. Check with your sponsors, or check out their websites.
Information is available on our website under the tab Covid-19. For more detailed information, we recommend going to helsenorge.no or check Stavanger kommune for local updates.
No, it is not. If you follow the current advice for infection control, the Fadderfestival will be a safe experience. The Fadderfestival makes it easy to follow all the current advice for infection control, so if you wash your hands frequently, keep your distance from others and stay at home if you are ill, it will go just fine. We in the Fadder-board follow the corona situation closely, and will make changes to the program if there is a need for it.
If the Fadder-board goes for a solution with a corona certificate, we will also give you the opportunity to test quickly in advance of the event. This means that you do not have to stress that you have not received a vaccine before the Fadderfestival - everyone should be able to participate!
In general, if you have symptoms or have been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with infection, we recommend that you contact the Stavanger Emergency Room on 116117 for further advice.
All events in the Fadderfestival will facilitate a meter distance between participants. Arrangements will also be made for hands to be washed frequently, and disinfectant will be applied at all events. We also collect contact information for all participants for any infection tracking.
We want to repeat last year's infection control success, at the same time as we increase capacity and make room for even more students in August. The difference from last year is that we divide the Fadderestival into three areas. There will be two areas on Campus Ullandhaug, and one in the city center. With the three divisions, we will be able to more easily adapt to the infection conditions and make room for more students. For example, if it is allowed with 500 people at an outdoor event in August, we can invite 1500 students, instead of just 500.
All Line Associations and student organizations have been given the opportunity to get involved and show themselves during the Fadderfestival. You will see them as part of the program, and as hosts for some of the events.
As a rule of thumb, all studies at UiS have their own student association (norwegian: linjeforening). Student association aims to create social cohesion, and facilitate social and academic gatherings for students who take the same field of study. Some of the line associations can be found at UiS.no
Tappetårnet and Folken function as a meeting place for the students. If you want to meet new people who do not go to your study this is the place to go.
Folken is the students' patio in the center of Stavanger. During the year they hold many different events and concerts. As a student, you always get a cheaper price at the concerts. It is also possible to rent Folkens premises for your own events.
Tappetårnet is the Student Bar on campus and is run by Students for students, and has regular opening hours every Thursday throughout the semester. Line associations and student organizations can also rent Tappetårnet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays for their own events.
Tappetårnet also holds various major events during the year, such as Oktoberfest, Husfest and semester closings.
